MAJOR NCAA CHANGES COMING
The NCAA Board of Governors called for a constitutional convention in November to consider dramatic reform of the role of the organization in college athletics. They expect action from the meeting to go into effect in January. Things are changing fast.
The NCAA has been under fire for several years now with how to govern college athletics. And recently the Supreme Court basically ruled that what the NCAA was doing to prevent athletes from earning money was illegal and that they needed to change their policies. That decision solidified athletes’ ability to earn money based on their name, image, and likeness.
NCAA President Mark Emmert said that he wants to align authority and responsibilities between school, conferences, and the NCAA. The issues here involve how athletes are ruled eligible and who will enforce rules violations. CONTINUE READING
TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA ACCEPT SEC INVITATIONS
Friday made things official. Texas and Oklahoma accepted the invitations they received Thursday to join the SEC. Oklahoma said that it recently became clear that the Big 12 was last in line of the Power 5 conferences for media negotiations. They said they wanted to include Oklahoma State but the market did not support that. You can read that as the SEC didn’t want Oklahoma State. And Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione said that standing pat would mean falling behind.
So the move is finally official. It might even be Facebook official. Texas and Oklahoma are set to join the SEC on July 1, 2025. Of course, every “expert” is saying that the move will happen before then. That’s probably right. Everybody will want to move on from this ugly divorce. CONTINUE READING
The Royals traded Jorge Soler to the Atlanta Braves for RHP Kasey Kalich. Kalich will be assigned to the A+ team in Quad Cities. Dayton Moore said that Kalich had the potential to be an impact relief pitcher.
Brady Singer began his rehab with a start Friday night.
Brad Keller left Sunday’s game with lower back tightness.
