Jorge Soler is as hot as can be right now.
Is it too late for him to build value for a trade? Other teams know what he’s been doing all season. The question is will a team be willing to take a chance the Soler can remain hot for the next few months in a pennant race? Maybe, just maybe, the Royals will have something go their way for once at the trade deadline.

BIG 12 IN FLUX
Texas and Oklahoma informed the Big 12 Monday that they would not be extending their grant of rights when the current agreement expires after the 2024-25 school year. This was expected as the first formal step to the two schools leaving the conference.
The schools will next apply for membership in the SEC. That is expected to happen Tuesday or Wednesday. The SEC presidents have scheduled a meeting for Thursday in which they will likely vote to admit the schools into the conference.
So with Texas and Oklahoma leaving the conference, what’s next for the Big 12?
The conference will likely look to add 2-4 schools to the conference to replace Texas and Oklahoma. They won’t find programs that can bring the television money the Longhorns and Sooners brought in. Dennis Dodd said Monday that his sources say that the Big 12 television contracts will drop 50-75% with the loss of Texas and Oklahoma. Schools will go from receiving $37 million per year to $9-18 million per year.
That drop in revenue is what will challenge the conference to stay together. While the schools are talking about sticking together through this change, can they really do that? Which school would turn down the opportunity to join another Power 5 conference to greatly increase their revenues back to something closer to what they have been receiving? Unfortunately, most likely won’t have that opportunity.
Kansas is reportedly talking with the Big Ten conference. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are popular choices in the rumor mill to go to the Pac 12. West Virginia has previously shown interest in joining the ACC. Again, which Big 12 school that has an opportunity to go to a solid Power 5 conference would turn that down right now?
After facing losses because of the covid, Big 12 schools were no doubt expecting to use their large television rights money to help offset some of those losses. But if they drop by 50-75%, how much trouble will some of these programs be in?
In a perfect world, the Big 12 would continue on and continue to play its conference basketball tournament in Kansas City for years to come. But that’s looking less and less likely at this time.
NOTES… Missouri athletic director Jim Sterk is reportedly stepping down… There are reports saying that QB Aaron Rodgers is planning on playing for Green Bay this season… The Cincinnati Bengals are not planning on playing QB Joe Burrow in any preseason games. They will work him in practice in a controlled environment until the season starts. Burrow is recovering from a knee injury last season.
