The Kansas City Sports Monitor is now free for everyone!
Some of you are receiving this email for the first time in a while because you were a member of my mailing list before we had a membership. Maybe you were a member recently or at some time in the past. But if you are receiving this, you are still active on the list even if you haven’t received an email in a while.
I decided to open the content to everyone without the need to pay. In the future, there will be some premium features that will require a small fee, but I expect there to be some content available for free going forward.
So, if you don’t want to receive these emails, find the link at the bottom of this email and unsubscribe. I don’t want to fill up your inbox if you aren’t interested. But I hope you give it a chance to see if you like it.
Those of you who have been members will continue to get the same content you received before. You just won’t have to pay for it. Also, things might be just a little easier to get since you won’t need to worry about a login.
And I have no plans of putting ads on the website, podcast episodes, or videos. If I have to do this in the future, I will, but it will be the last resort. I don’t anticipate ever having ads.
And even though the membership has gone away, at least for now, I am always looking to expand. For example, I am looking at adding a premium podcast on Apple Podcasts when that feature becomes available. However, if I do this, it will be in addition to what I am doing now and will not replace the current episodes.
So, please sit back, enjoy, and let’s talk about sports news that is of interest to thinking Kansas City sports fans.

HOW SHOULD TEAMS PROMOTE STARTING PITCHERS?
I’m afraid I have to disagree with Dayton Moore’s approach to promoting his top starting pitching prospects to the major leagues. I believe that they should pitch out of the bullpen their first year. Let them focus on getting through just one inning as they adjust to the major leagues. Yes, there are plenty of pitchers who come up as starting pitchers and do well right away. But pitching in the major leagues is hard. Maybe taking away some of the pressure would benefit young pitchers.
CAN WE STOP FEELING BAD FOR MIKE TROUT’S PLAYOFF DROUGHT?
Fortunately, we didn’t have to sit through it Monday with the Royals playing the Angels, but what do you always hear when the Angels are on a national broadcast? The talk is always about how the Angels owe it to Mike Trout to get in the playoffs. They say Mike Trout, the best player ever to play the game in their minds (not mine), should be on the national stage. They say baseball needs it.
This drives me crazy. The fact that Mike Trout has been in the postseason only once in his career is a testament to baseball being the ultimate team sport. See, in basketball, if you add a Michael Jordan or Wilt Chamberlain, you are going to the playoffs at a minimum. In football, if you add a Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, you are playing in the Super Bowl more often than not. In baseball, there are no guarantees. Mike Trout doesn’t get to take every at-bat the way Jordan can take every shot, or Mahomes can make every throw. Nope. Trout gets his chance and then has to wait for eight other guys to try before he gets up again.
And let’s not forget, Mike Trout has had opportunities to leave the Angels for another team. But, instead, he has chosen to stay. Is it because he wants to help the Angels get to a World Series? Or is it all of the money they are willing to pay him? Whatever the reason, Trout has decided to stay. That’s on him.
So let’s stop feeling bad for Mike Trout. He has made his bed…
