BIG 12 / BIG EAST BATTLE MATCHUPS SET
The 2021 matchups are set for the Big 12 / Big East Battle.
Kansas will play at St. John’s. St. John’s is opening a new arena in 2021. This game is expected to be the first game in the arena. St. John’s was looking for a marquee opponent for the opening game in the arena, and Kansas satisfies that wish. St. John’s finished fourth in the Big East last season with a 10-9 conference record and 16-11 overall. Kansas was 12-6 in the Big 12 last season and 21-9 overall.
Kansas State hosts Marquette. Marquette finished ninth in the Big East last season with an 8-11 conference record. They were 13-14 overall. Kansas State was 4-14 in the Big 12 last season, which was good for ninth place, finishing only ahead of Iowa State. The Wildcats were 9-20 overall.
The top game in the battle will be Villanova at Baylor. Both teams won their conference last season. Baylor defeated Gonzaga to win the national championship. Villanova is expected to be back to a guard-heavy team capable of winning a championship.
MLS STARTING LOWER-DIVISION LEAGUE
Major League Soccer is starting a lower-division league with play to begin in 2022. The league is meant to be a stepping-stone between the MLS academies and the MLS first-team rosters. Details have not been finalized, but half of the MLS clubs are expected to have a team in it. Independent teams could be added later. The league’s goal is to provide additional game minutes for players coming out of the academy system. There isn’t expected to be an age cap in the league.
