The first day of the NFL Draft passed without a pick by the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs will make their first pick today. The Chiefs have the 58th and 63rd picks today pending any trades.
7:10pm – MLB – Kansas City Royals at Minnesota Twins (BSKC)
The top pick was uneventful as we have known for months that Jacksonville would take QB Trevor Lawrence. The New York Jets then selected QB Zach Wilson. The San Francisco 49ers took QB Trey Lance out of North Dakota State.
The AFC West had its first pick at #9 by the Denver Broncos. They took Alabama CB Patrick Surtain. His dad was drafted in the second round. So at least for now the Broncos seem happy with Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater battling at quarterback. And the Broncos realize they have to play the Chiefs twice each season and try to stop the Patrick Mahomes passing game.
The Los Angeles Chargers took OT Rashawn Slater from Northwestern with the #13 pick. They already have their quarterback in Justin Herbert. The question with him is his length. That’s the question with all of the offensive linemen in this draft and why the Chiefs traded for Orlando Brown.
The Las Vegas Raiders shocked Mel Kiper Jr. with picking OL Alex Leatherwood out of Alabama with the 17th pick. Kiper had him going in the mid- to late second round.
Chiefs Notes: The Chiefs re-signed WR Byron Pringle.
Notes: Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers has reportedly told people that he wants a trade and does not want to return to the Packers. The Packers reportedly told Aaron Rodgers that they would trade him this offseason. Things apparently got so bad that Rodgers told the team he would not return even if he isn’t traded. No NFL MVP has ever been traded in the offseason following when he won the award… Tim Tebow reached out to the Jacksonville Jaguars about a tryout at tight end.
