The Royals finally dropped a game after winning five in a row.
The pitching was good once again with Jakob Junis. It’s the offense that is failing the club right now. At what point does Dayton Moore make the call to bring Bobby Witt Jr. to the major leagues? It’s early, but you also have to consider the trade market if the club is still a serious playoff contender around Memorial Day.
So at this point, we just wait and see how things progress. After all, the Royals have one of the best records in baseball, and they haven’t even played particularly well yet. That’s a good position to be in if they are a competitive team. If not, maybe this is just a lucky stretch, and the drop has yet to arrive.

Chiefs Ready For The Draft
We always talk about how the best way to enter the draft for any team is to not have to find a player at a particular position. The Chiefs have been particularly good at filling needs in free agency so that they can draft the best available player.
It didn’t look great just a few days ago. The Chiefs were staring at a gaping hole on the left side of their offensive line. They signed Joe Thuney away from the New England Patriots. The question is whether he would play left guard or have to move out to left tackle after the club failed to sign a free agent left tackle.
Brett Veach talked with the media on Monday morning and was peppered with questions about the left tackle position. We found out a few hours later that he sealed a deal with the Baltimore Ravens for Orlando Brown Jr. This was the signing that completely changed how the Chiefs would approach the draft that starts tomorrow.
With Orlando Brown at left tackle, QB Patrick Mahomes shouldn’t have to worry about running away from pressure on that side of the line before he even catches the snap.
And now we see how things work out in training camp to see just where Joe Thuney plays on the line. Andy Reid mentioned the possibility of Thuney playing center. That was a shocker, and it puts a lot of pressure on Austin Blythe.
But really, what it does is promote a lot of competition between Blythe, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Mike Remmers, Lucas Niang, Andrew Wylie, and Kyle Long. There are others, but I think the other three starters on the line will come from this group.
And now the Chiefs don’t have to reach for a left tackle in the draft. And it’s a draft in which medical information has been tough to come by without a normal scouting combine.
You can never count out Veach and Reid going for an offensive weapon, but the current roster screams defense at this point. The best thing, though, is that the Chiefs can go in whatever direction the draft takes them.
