Super League: DOA
The Super League that had so many in soccer concerned for the sport is dead before it started. Bayern Munich announced that they would not play in the league. Chelsea followed that up by saying they also would not play. And now we are hearing that Manchester City is dropping out along with Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Liverpool.
The Super League‘s financial structure would have resembled professional sports in the United States. There was expected to be revenue sharing and a salary cap.
Finally, the founder of the Super League said that the league would not happen because of all of the teams that withdrew from it due to pressure from fans. It was a fun idea from a distance but hated by big soccer fans and especially fans of the teams involved.
