Kansas Athletic Director Introduced
New Kansas athletic director Travis Goff was introduced Wednesday. Goff graduated from Kansas. He was most recently a Deputy AD at Northwestern. Goff was in the athletic department at Tulane and assisted with rebuilding the program after Hurricane Katrina.
Goff did not get many specific questions about the current issues facing the athletic department. He said that he is open-minded about the football coaching situation. He has a plan but wants to listen to people who have been closer to the situation and gather more information before deciding.
I would expect Goff to hire a football coach from outside of the current staff. One coach who is reportedly assembling a coaching staff to present in discussions with Goff for the job is current Army coach Jeff Monken. Monken has been at Army for eight seasons. He is said to adjust his team’s approach based on the talent available. He would not bring the triple-option offensive approach to Kansas.
Goff is happy with the lifetime contract the university recently agreed to with Bill Self. It’s a no-brainer of a decision for the school. Goff didn’t feel like he needed to be a part of that. Wrapping up the deal was the most important thing the school could do.
Kansas received a commitment from Drake transfer G Joseph Yesufu. Yesufu averaged 23.5 points in two tournament games… Nike put its deal with Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson on hold while he deals with his legal matters… Arizona fired head basketball coach Sean Miller. The NCAA found Miller to have failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance as part of the fallout from the FBI investigations.
