After a wild opening day game and a day off, the Royals are back in action today against the Texas Rangers.
Mike Minor makes his first start of the season today. Let’s hope for a much better start than what we saw from Brad Keller on Thursday. If not, the Royals are going to need another offensive performance like Thursday’s.
I also want to let you know about the new box scores I have available on the website now. Each game report will contain a box score that is a little different than anything you have ever seen. If you view it on your phone, you will need to rotate your phone into the landscape position to see everything. If you are interested in seeing the format, I added them to the Royals’ opening game report. Please give it a look and let me know what you think.
1:10pm – MLB – Texas Rangers (Kohei Arihara) at Kansas City Royals (Mike Minor)
Bill Self Gets Lifetime Contract
With Bill Self’s contract set to expire next March, Kansas announced a new lifetime contract for their head basketball coach. The new deal replaces Self’s current contract. It’s a five-year rolling contract that automatically adds an additional year at the end of each year. Bill Self will earn $5.1 million per year.
The contract prevents Kansas from firing Self for cause because of current infractions that the NCAA is reviewing. However, the school is covered in case Self is suspended for any of those violations.
There is a $2 million buyout if Self leaves for an NBA job. So that possibility, which has been discussed for years, is specifically addressed in the contract.
Ultimately, the deal helps Self with recruiting. He can tell families that he isn’t going anywhere.
The new deal shows Kansas’ commitment to Self in a time when the NCAA is getting closer to handing down its decision on the Kansas case, North Carolina has an open job with the retirement of Roy Williams, and the school is closing in on hiring a new athletic director.
Kansas athletics is all about basketball, and Bill Self has been the most successful head coach in its history.
