It’s Opening Day!
I have been waiting for this day for almost two years. Last year didn’t count. It wasn’t a real season. The Dodgers won the World Series, but I don’t count it. I said that at the beginning of the season. A 60-game season with expanded playoffs is not Major League Baseball.
Now we are back to a real season. We have a 162-game schedule ahead of us. Will we have games canceled because of the covid? I will be surprised if we don’t.
3:10pm – MLB – Texas Rangers (Kyle Gibson) at Kansas City Royals (Brad Keller)
And So It Begins
Adalberto Mondesi has had problems staying healthy in his short major league career, and on Wednesday, the Royals put him on the 10-day injured list. You heard me right. This time he was put on the injured list THE DAY BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED!
What makes this worse is that the Royals reached down to the minor leagues and recalled Nicky Lopez. Lopez will start at shortstop today. The plus is that this will move Carlos Santana up to the third spot in the batting lineup. Lopez should be at the bottom of the order. I suspect he will be. Having him in the lineup really hurts the bottom of the order.
Kansas C David McCormack broke a toe in his foot in the team’s NCAA tournament win against Eastern Washington. He had surgery on Wednesday and should resume basketball activities in 12 weeks… Kansas received a commitment from Division II Missouri Southern State forward Cam Martin. Martin was a three-time All-American for former Kansas guard Jeff Boschee… Missouri guard Torrance Watson entered the transfer portal Wednesday. The Tigers have just three returning players for next season: Kobe Brown, Javon Pickett, and Jordan Wilmore. Missouri has five incoming freshmen and one incoming transfer… The Seattle Seahawks agreed with WR Tyler Lockett on a four-year, $69.2 million contract extension…
