Day one of the NCAA tournament is in the books, and it was a good one. We had the upsets we always enjoy seeing, unless it is to our team. We had some blowouts by the larger seeds.
The Big 12 was the conference of the day, going 4-0, with its closest win being a nine-point victory by Oklahoma State over Liberty. Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas play today. All three are favorites in their games. Kansas is a 10 1/2 point favorite over Eastern Washington. Oklahoma is a one-point favorite against Missouri. And Texas is a nine-point favorite against Abilene Christian.

The Royals optioned LHP Kris Bubic to Triple-A Omaha. He has struggled in spring training, but the Royals also won’t need a fifth starter the first couple of weeks.
At this point, Bubic is likely battling for the fifth spot in the rotation. Brad Keller, Mike Minor, Brady Singer, and Danny Duffy are locks. It’s likely Kris Bubic, and Jakob Junis are battling for the last spot in the rotation.
David McCormack joined the team in Indianapolis Saturday morning. It will be interesting to see how much he can play on Sunday. Jalen Wilson is expected to join the team on Monday if the Jayhawks win Saturday. It’s not known if Wilson will get to Indianapolis and get processed in time to play Monday. And Tristan Enaruna is out until at least the second weekend.
Kansas State Basketball Transfer
Kansas State G DaJuan Gordon and G Rudi Williams entered the transfer portal. That brings the total to three after F Antonio Gordon entered earlier this week.
Gordon wants to play a larger role on offense. Is he serious? The free one-time transfer rule in effect now will cause players to transfer for laughable reasons. Now that’s not to say that the rule is a bad one. Frankly, I don’t see a reason why they shouldn’t be able to transfer yearly. The only argument against that would be the money schools spend on the players to bring them in. If the players are getting paid for their play, then they are professionals and should be treated as such. If they are not, then they should not be bound to any restrictions on transferring. It’s pretty clear to me.
