You have certainly heard a lot about service time manipulation by major league clubs with spring training upon us. Those accusations are 100% wrong. Service time manipulation not only doesn’t exist, but it also can’t exist. Watch the video below to understand why I say this is the case.
3:00pm – CBB – Kansas State at West Virginia (ESPN2)
7:00pm – CBB – Baylor at Kansas (ESPN)
Royals’ first spring game… RHP Ervin Santana will start the spring opener tomorrow against the Texas Rangers. Kris Bubic, Wade Davis, and Scott Barlow are also scheduled to pitch. We don’t know how many innings they will play. MLB has said games at the start of spring training will be seven innings unless both managers agree to play longer. Mike Matheny has said that he wants to play nine innings in every spring game.
Retirement… Former Royals RHP Kelvin Herrera announced his retirement.
Schedules keep changing… Missouri’s postponed game against LSU was rescheduled for a week from tomorrow at 2:00 pm and shown on the SEC Network.
Kansas returning players… Kansas basketball players Mitch Lightfoot and Chris Teahan announced that they would return for another season.
Mo money mo problems… The NFL reached a new deal with Disney for an increase of 30%, or $2.6 billion, more than the current deal. The contract puts ABC back in the Super Bowl rotation. ABC hasn’t had the big game since 2006.
Oops, MLS did it, well, at least once… Major League Soccer announced Sacramento as an expansion team that was supposed to begin to play in 2022. The problem? They had not received a signed franchise agreement or the expansion payment from the new franchise owner, Ron Burkle. And Friday, the league announced that Burkle would not go forward with the franchise because of financial losses in 2020 because of the covid. MLS has been on such an expansion push lately that they got a little ahead of themselves. There is a lesson to be learned in this.
