The good times came to an end on Saturday with a Kansas State loss.
Kansas State had a big challenge ahead of them. Having won their previous two games, the Wildcats would have to win on the road in Morgantown, West Virginia, to make it three. And the Mountaineers entered the game playing about as well as any team in the Big 12. Kansas State had to play without Nijel Pack, who had an eye injury.
Kansas State was down just four points at the half, but the second half was all West Virginia. West Virginia’s defense was too much for the Wildcats. Without Nijel Pack, the Wildcats had few options on offense against a good Mountaineers defense.
What does this loss mean for Kansas State? Nothing. Not one thing. There was little doubt Kansas State would win this game. It’s disappointing that the game got as out of control as it did, but that’s saying something as well. Not too long ago, we wouldn’t have thought twice about this game. Kansas State was so bad you thought they might lose this by 50. To be disappointed in the large loss means that there are some expectations.
Kansas State is playing out the schedule at this point and looking ahead to the 2021-22 season. The biggest question right now is will Mike McGuirl return to help this team next season?
