Things are not going the way Kansas City sports fans would like right now. Of course, there was the 31-9 loss in the Super Bowl on Sunday. That was a big surprise to those who follow the Chiefs. But since then, it’s been even worse.
On Monday, Marty Schottenheimer passed away at the age of 77. Schottenheimer led the Chiefs back to competitiveness from 1989 through 1998. He finished first or second in the division every season except for his last season.
Then on Tuesday, we learned of the passing of journalist Terez Paylor. Terez covered the Missouri beat, and then the Chiefs beat for the Kansas City Star before leaving for Yahoo Sports. There was an outpouring of people on Twitter discussing what a good person Paylor was. And he passed away at the young age of just 37.
Yes, it’s been a rough time recently for Kansas City sports fans. Hopefully, Monday and Tuesday’s events help everyone realize that Sunday’s loss, while disappointing, is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

Patrick Mahomes will have surgery today to repair the turf tow injury he suffered during the postseason. The rehabilitation will take several months, but Mahomes is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for training camp.
The Chiefs placed outside linebackers coach Britt Reid on administrative leave while they gather information on the accident he was involved with days before the Super Bowl.
Major League Baseball and the MLBPA agreed to continue with seven-inning doubleheader games and starting extra innings with a runner on second base. However, the playoffs will go back to normal this season and not be expanded as they were in 2020.
Mourning the passing of our friend Terez, who leaves us with so many loving memories (Sam Mellinger)
