Missouri chose a bad night not to play their best because they got the best Mississippi offers. A Mississippi team that couldn’t miss from behind the arc early cooled off but still shot 57% for the game. And you know it’s not Missouri’s night when they are 5-for-15 from the free-throw line. This game could hurt the Tigers a little at seeding time, but that’s about it.
Under 16: This timeout comes with 12:18 left in the half. It’s tied 14-14. Both teams started the game playing good defense but also allowed some open looms from behind the arc and both offenses were hitting them. Dru Smith has six points early.
Under 12: This came less than a minute after the last timeout. Mississippi leads 16-14.
Under 8: The defense isn’t awful, but both teams are making shots. It’s not an historic pace, but both are more productive offensively than expected. Mississippi leads 24-23.
Under 4: I might have to take back my statement about both teams playing good defense. I mean, it looks pretty good, but how do teams shoot this well if the defense is good? Missouri leads 35-34.
End of Half: Mississippi switched to a 1-3-1 defense and Missouri struggled against it. Mississippi leads 42-37.
Under 16: Missouri’s defense broke down at the start of the second half. Too many easy baskets for Mississippi. Missouri is double-teaming at times and leaving a player wide open in the lane for easy points. Add to that, Jeremiah Tilmon is having a hard time holding on to the ball. This allowed Mississippi to extend its lead to 57-41.
Under 12: The winning team often has more energy. That’s what helps them get the lead and then at times getting the lead propels them to have even more energy. That’s what is happening in this game. Mississippi is getting the loose balls doing everything right because of their energy. Mississippi now leads 62-43. It’s a blowout.
Under 8: This game is out of control. Everything is going Mississippi’s way. Somehow they have even hurt Missouri’s free throw shooting. The Tigers are a good free throw shooting team but are just 4-for-13 at the line tonight. Mississippi leads 71-51.
Under 4: Do you know that feeling you get when you know a game is over and yet you are still watching it? That’s where I am at. Missouri played Mississippi on the wrong night for both teams. It wasn’t one of Missouri’s best games and Mississippi is shooting out of their minds. Mississippi leads 77-56.
End of Game: The commentators are trying to come up with excuses for the Tigers’ game when there is none. Sometimes you just don’t play your best. Some of that is because of things Mississippi did in this game. Some of it is just Missouri being a little off. There are no excuses. Missouri got their butts kicked in this game.
