The Kansas game at Oklahoma State was a huge disappointment. This is usually a good game even when the Cowboys are down but they were just awful in this game. Kansas was in control the entire game and ran away with it. Also, Nebraska fans, we have a Bo Pelini sighting!
Here is your daily Dr. Feelgood…
KANSAS (65) AT OKLAHOMA STATE (50)
This game started with Kansas as a 7 1/2 point favorite, two frontcourt players suspended and a history of struggling in Stillwater, Oklahoma and none of that mattered. The Jayhawks blew out Oklahoma State and it really should have been worse except for a stretch before halftime when they let up and let the Cowboys back in the game only to blow them out again in the second half.
Kansas had a lot of trouble getting the ball into Udoka Azubuike in the first half but eventually had success inside in the second half.
Christian Braun got the start in place of Isaiah Moss and he was terrific. He scored 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting, including 4-for-8 behind the arc. He also grabbed nine rebounds. So close to a double-double! Braun needs to be a possibility to start in place of Ochai Agbaji when David McCormack is back this weekend. However, it seems like Bill Self might prefer to sit McCormack at the beginning of the game in favor of Braun.
The win was nice for Kansas, and they did play well and with a lot of effort, but Oklahoma State was just terrible. Even when Azubuike went to the bench, the Cowboys were settling for outside shots instead of trying to get to the basket. Sure, part of that was Kansas’ defense on the ball, but it was also the Cowboys’ lack of intent to get to the rim.
The win keeps Kansas one game behind Baylor in the loss column. The Jayhawks host Texas Tech Saturday at 3:00 pm on ESPN.
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired OF Starling Marte from the Pittsburgh Pirates for two prospects.
The Cincinnati Reds reached an agreement with Nicholas Castellanos on a four-year, $64 million contract with an opt-out after the 2020 season.
Umpires might wear a microphone to tell the crowd why a review went a particular way similar to what officials in the NFL do today. MLB said that the umpires will have to agree to this but that it could be in place for the 2020 season.
LSU hired former Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini to be their new defensive coordinator.
WHAT TO WATCH
Missouri hosts Georgia at 7:30 pm on the SEC Network but I don’t recommend watching that. I will watch that for you. I recommend you watch Butler at Georgetown at 8:00 pm on CBS Sports Network.
In the Sunday podcast this week, I talked a lot about the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal in Major League Baseball. I went through the arguments and punishment and explained why Scott Boras is completely wrong regarding his reasons for why he said that the players do not need to apologize. I compared Scott Boras’ arguments on why he thinks Astros players should not apologize for cheating to George Costanza’s argument against losing his job for having sex in the office. I also talked a little about the games played by the local college hoops teams over the weekend.
