The build-up to the Chiefs playoff game on Sunday started Monday. Everyone is talking about it already. After a week off, Chiefs fans can’t wait for it. So, I will save any analysis for another day and give you the news that came out on Monday.
Here is your daily Dr. Feelgood…
CHIEFS VS TEXANS:
We received a little news about the Chiefs vs Texans game on Sunday. Of primary interest to those who will be watching the game on television is that CBS announced that the network’s top crew of Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, Tracy Wolfson, and Jay Feely will broadcast the game.
Andy Reid talked with the media on Monday. He said that the Chiefs currently have no injuries with their active players. Everyone practiced on Monday. Reid talked about how both teams are different than they were when they played earlier in the season. He said that the coaches watched all four playoff games in the office this weekend and looked at all three teams that they might play this Sunday. Reid said that each round of the playoffs gets a little faster and that having experience in it definitely helps players. He also said that he expects the overtime rules to be looked at again this offseason by the competition committee after the Minnesota Vikings won on the first possession of overtime and the Saints did not get an offensive possession of their own.
Houston Texans receiver Will Fuller is apparently progressing and appears as if he will play against the Chiefs on Sunday. He has missed six games this season because of injuries. Fuller missed the Texans game this past weekend against the Buffalo Bills because of a nagging groin injury. Fuller had five receptions for 44 yards in the game the Chiefs and Texans played in Week 6.
Texans’ DJ Reader said that Patrick Mahomes can make any throw and that the Texans just need to try to make as much chaos as possible. Reader also said that he doesn’t think the Texans’ win earlier in the season at Arrowhead matters at all since this game is in the playoffs. The only thing it does is it has the players familiar with where they are playing.
Texans’ Brandon Dunn said that the entire defense has to try to keep Patrick Mahomes in the pocket because he causes problems when he gets outside. He said the earlier win in Kansas City gives the team confidence but it ultimately doesn’t mean anything because this is the playoffs.
Texans’ safety Justin Reid talked about the speed on offense for the Chiefs. He said that you have to have extra attention on Tyreek Hill because of his speed making him the fastest guy in the league. He said Travis Kelce is one of the best tight ends in the league and that he enjoys playing against the best. Reid also said that playing in this game will be exciting but it will be even more exciting when they are one of the last four teams remaining. He said it will be exciting to see Tyrann Mathieu play but that he probably won’t text with him this week. Reid mentioned that having played the Chiefs earlier in the season will help the Texans with being familiar with the Chiefs’ players.

Former Chiefs safety Ron Parker announced his retirement on Monday. Andy Reid said that he told Parker that he would be a great coach.

The Los Angels Rams are not bringing black Wade Phillips as their defensive coordinator. Phillips said Monday that he would still like to coach.

WHAT I’M WATCHING: There are several games worth watching on Tuesday. I’ll start with Tennessee at Missouri at 6 pm on the SEC Network. After that, I will have two games on. TCU plays at Kansas State on ESPNU and Baylor is at Texas Tech on ESPN2. The Baylor vs Texas Tech game is my top choice for the day.
