The Royals reduced the number of players on the 40-man roster to 36 by non-tendering Humberto Arteaga, Cheslor Cuthbert, Jesse Hahn, and Erick Mejia. A non-tendered player becomes a free agent. Now that the roster is below 40 the Royals can participate in the Rule 5 Draft at the Winter Meetings. The Winter Meetings take place December 8-12 in San Diego.
The Royals signed LHP Mike Montgomery to a one-year, $3.1 million contract. The deal means that the Royals avoid arbitration with Montgomery.

Washington head coach Chris Petersen announced that he will step down after the Huskies’ bowl game. Petersen will transition into a leadership role with the athletic department. Current defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake was named the new head coach.
BYU signed a 7-year deal with ESPN through 2026 for the network to televise home football games of BYU. The deal guarantees a bowl game each year when BYU is bowl eligible.
