Oklahoma State received a notice of allegations from the NCAA on Friday. Former coach Lamont Evans was accused of taking bribes to persuade players to choose the people who paid the bribes to be their financial advisor. Oklahoma State will argue that the university did not benefit in any way and was considered a victim by the federal government. The NCAA is charging the Cowboys with a Level 1 violation which is the highest violation level.
The Chicago White Sox agreed with 1B Jose Abreu on a three-year $50 million contract. The contract includes a full no-trade clause. Abreu will receive a $5 million signing bonus, $11 million in 2020, $16 million in 2021 and $18 million in 2022. Abreu will be 33 in 2020. He had an .834 OPS in 2019 with 180 hits, 33 home runs and 123 runs batted in. His career OPS is .862 in six seasons. He is averaging 30 home runs per season.
Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo resigned from the NABC board in protest of the NCAA’s transfer policy. The decisions on transfer eligibility made by the NCAA are impossible to guess because there doesn’t appear to be any consistency. Izzo is also frustrated that the NCAA is relying on people outside of college basketball to make critical decisions.
