John Sherman was unanimously approved as the new owner of the Kansas City Royals at the owner’s meetings in Arlington, Texas. Sherman reportedly had a path to take over as majority owner of the Cleveland Indians but decided to purchase the Royals when the club became available. The sale should close early next week. Spending this offseason will reportedly not change much with the change in ownership.
The Chiefs signed DE Demone Harris off of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. To make room on the roster the Chiefs released DT Joey Ivie.
Minor League outfielder Khalil Lee broke his right hand Wednesday on a hit-by-pitch. He is done for the rest of the winter season in Puerto Rico. Lee played at Double-A Northwest Arkansas this year. He had a .735 OPS with 53 stolen bases and 8 home runs in 129 games.
The NCAA announced that the University of Kansas now has until February 19, 2020 to respond to the notice of allegations it received on September 23.
Commissioner Rob Manfred said that Major League Baseball is investigating potential cheating by the Houston Astros in 2018 and 2019 in addition to 2017.
Rob Manfred acknowledged that Major League baseball provided a list of minor league facilities that are not up to standard. He said that Minor League baseball was supposed to keep the list confidential.
The Chicago White Sox agreed to a four-year, $73 million contract with C Yasmani Grandal. This is the largest contract in franchise history.
