The Missouri Tigers played tough run defense which forced Ole Miss to change their offensive approach and the Tigers won 38-27. Larry Rountree was too tough on the ground for the Rebels. QB Kelly Bryant didn’t show any problems from his knee injury last week. He threw for over 300 yards. The win moves the Tigers into sole possession of first place in the SEC East before they go on the road for their next three games.
The Royals had a couple of players in the Arizona Fall League All-Star Game. LHP Daniel Lynch got the start for the West team. He pitched one inning and struck out two batters allowing no hits, runs or walks. It took just nine pitches for Lynch. CF Kyle Isbel was 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Both players are having nice fall seasons.
Washington Nationals closer Daniel Hudson returned to the team after missing Game 1 of the NLCS for the birth of his child. He got the last two outs of the game for the save in a Washington 3-1 win in St. Louis. Both starting pitchers, Max Scherzer and Adam Wainwright pitched really well. The Nationals head back home for game three up 2-0.
Masahiro Tanaka dominated the Houston Astros by allowing just one hit over six innings before manager Aaron Boone inexplicably removed him from the game after throwing just 68 pitches. Gleyber Torres went 3-for-5 with one run and five runs batted in. Torres had a double and a home run. The Yankees won 7-0 and took a 1-0 series lead. Game two is Sunday in Houston.
The St. Louis Cardinals analytics department said that the baseballs being used in the postseason are not traveling as far as baseballs used in the regular season.
ESPN is reporting that a Los Angeles Angels employee told the DEA about extensive opioid use by Tyler Skaggs and others on the team.
The San Francisco Giants are going to interview Gabe Kapler for their open managerial position. Kapler was recently fired by the Philadelphia Phillies. The Giants recently interviewed the Royals’ Pedro Grifol.
#6 Oklahoma defeated #11 Texas 34-27 in an exciting Red River Rivalry game. Oklahoma took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and led 10-3 at the half. The offense was more effective for both teams in the second half as they both scored 24 points so the Sooners won by seven remaining undefeated. A pregame scuffle between the two teams led to personal foul penalties for every player on both teams. That meant that any personal foul penalties assessed during the game wold result in the player being ejected from the game.
# 3 Georgia’s kicker Rodrigo Blankenship missed two field goals in the game including a 42-yard attempt in overtime that would have tied the game and forced a third overtime. The loss drops Georgia out of first place in the SEC East behind Missouri.
#5 LSU and #7 Florida were tied at 21-21 at the half. LSU outscored the Gators 21-7 in the second half to win this game at LSU at night. The loss for Florida drops them behind Missouri in the SEC East.
