The Chiefs placed DT Xavier Williams on injured reserve. Williams suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday’s loss to Indianapolis. Williams will have to sit out eight games before he is eligible to be activated.
It’s up in the air as to whether or not newly signed OL Stefen Wisniewski will play this Sunday. The Chiefs are hopeful but it’s a matter of him picking up the offense. Wisniewski played in a similar offense with the Philadelphia Eagles so that improves his chances of being ready.

Royals #29 prospect 2B Gabriel Cancel was added to the Surprise roster in the Arizona Fall League. He replaced 1B/3B Travis Jones. Cancel played in 123 games for Double-A Northwest Arkansas. He hit 18 home runs and 144 strikeouts in 464 at bats with an OPS of .735.
Kansas held its on-campus media day on Wednesday. Bill Self was obviously asked about the NCAA notice of allegations. Self responded, “There is still a story that hasn’t been told and that would be our story.” Self also said that nothing about the Late Night event was meant as an attack against the NCAA.
Kansas State will sell beer and wine at basketball games at Bramlage Coliseum this season.
The Big 12 basketball media day is set for Wednesday, October 23. Kansas will be represented at the Big 12 basketball media day by Bill Self, Ochai Agbaji, Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson. Kansas State will be represented by Bruce Weber, Makol Mawien, Xavier Sneed and Cartier Diarra.
The SEC basketball media day will be held on Wednesday, October 16. Cuonzo Martin, Jeremiah Tilmon and Javon Pickett will represent Missouri.
The San Diego Padres are reportedly looking to hire a manager with major league managerial experience. Atlanta Braves’ third base coach Ron Washington is reportedly in the list of candidates. Washington knows Padres GM A.J. Preller from their days with the Texas Rangers.
Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski recently said that the NIL (name, image and likeness) changes are good for college basketball. His concern is that college basketball is being threatened by the NBA with the G-League. He said that college basketball needs to stop being reactionary. He seems to want to run college basketball more like a professional sports league and market the players.
Oakland Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict lost his appeal of his suspension for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season. The appeal was heard by Derrick Brooks who was jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFLPA. Burfict will not be paid during the suspension. The suspension covers the postseason as well as the regular season.
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman said that he will apologize to Cleveland QB Baker Mayfield for saying that Mayfield refused to shake his hand before their game on Monday night. Video showed that what Sherman had said was not true. Mayfield said, “That’s the one time the camera and something recording me has gone in my favor.” Mayfield had an incident in college when the Kansas Jayhawks’ captains refused to shake his hand at the pregame coin toss.
The Minnesota Twins are picking up the option on Nelson Cruz for the 2020 season.
The St. Louis Cardinals scored 10 runs in the first inning on their way to a 13-1 win in Atlanta to advance to the National League Championship Series. P Jack Flaherty allowed just four hits, one walk and one run in six innings He struck out eight. RF Tommy Edman went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two runs batted in, a double and a triple. Atlanta starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz allowed seven runs, six earned, on three hits and three walks in just 1/3 of an inning.
Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann announced his retirement immediately after the Braves’ loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Washington Nationals scored two runs in the eighth inning on back-to-back solo home runs off of Clayton Kershaw to tie the game at 3-3. The games went to extra innings. Howie Kendrick then hit a grand slam in the tenth inning off of Joe Kelly that wound up winning the game 7-3 and the series 3-2.
