The Royals scored seven runs in the top of the ninth in a 12-5 win in Minnesota. Jorge Soler was 3-for-5 but did not add to his season home run total of 45. Ryan McBroom went 2-for-4. Ryan O’Hearn was 3-for-4 with a double and home run and three runs batted in.
Glenn Sparkman struggled yet again allowing five runs in four innings. The bullpen consisted of five pitchers in this game who combined for five scoreless innings.
Sporting jumped on top three minutes into the game on a goal by Gerso Fernandes. Sporting added to that lead 11 minutes later on a Colorado own goal forced by Krisztian Nemeth. But with Matt Besler receiving two yellow cards by the 20 minute mark the team had to play the final 70 minutes down a man. Colorado scored three goals after that, including goals by former Sporting players Kei Kamara and Diego Rubio, on their way to a 3-2 win. Sporting can be officially eliminated from playoff contention based on results of games on Sunday.
The San Diego Padres fired their manager A.J. Preller. Preller has two years left on his contract. He had a 277-366 record with the team.
