Royals can’t sweep Tigers, lose 6-4
The Royals jumped on the scoreboard first with three runs in the bottom of the second but the Tigers owned the scoring after that as Detroit prevented a series sweep by winning 6-4.
Whit Merrifield was 4-for-5 with a double, one of just two extra base hits the Royals had on Thursday. Hunter Dozier was 3-for-3.
Glenn Sparkman started on the mound but only last four innings. He allowed four runs on seven hits. The bullpen allowed just two runs over the last five innings. Josh Staumont was the only relief pitcher who struggled. He allowed both runs in just 2/3 of an inning.
The Royals start a weekend series Friday in Miami against the Marlins. Jorge Lopez pitches for the Royals against Pablo Lopez for Miami.
