Royals defeat Detroit 5-4 as Soler hits home run #40
Jakob Junis struggled early on, allowing three runs in the second inning, but settled down and gave Ned Yost seven solid innings in a Royals 5-4 win. Junis allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk in seven innings. Scott Barlow and Ian Kennedy each pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the win.
Jorge Soler extended his franchise best single-season home run total to 40 with a long home run in the fifth inning.
Hunter Dozier and Alex Gordon each had three hits in the game. Ryan McBroom got two more hits in this game after getting one in his major league debut Tuesday.
The Royals can sweep the series with a win on Thursday in a 12:15 game. Glenn Sparkman will start on the mound for the Royals against Matthew Boyd.
The Dallas Cowboys signed RB Ezekiel Elliott to a 6-year, $90 million contract with $50 million of that guaranteed. Elliott is now signed through 2026.
