Royals lose final game of series to A’s 9-8
The Glenn Sparkman experiment had another failure on Thursday as he allowed seven runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings in a Royals 9-8 loss to the Oakland Athletics. The good news on the pitching side was Josh Staumont. He threw two scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out four.
The offensive side of the baseball was really good. Whit Merrifield had three hits to lead the team. Jorge Soler hit his 37th home run on the season and is now just one behind Mike Moustakas’ club record. Ryan O’Hearn went 2-for-4 as he continues to see his luck improve.
The Royals start a three game weekend series Friday at Kauffman against the Baltimore Orioles. Eric Skoglund gets the start for the Royals.
Bob Nightengale of the USA Today reports that the sale of the Royals to John Sherman should be done by November. David Glass is reportedly wanting to sell the team soon because of health concerns. Nightengale says the sale will be just over $1 billion.
The Kansas City Chiefs played their final 2019 preseason football game Thursday night in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Patrick Mahomes and many of the regulars did not play in the game.
Some Saturday games are being affected by the hurricane moving into Florida. The Florida State vs Boise State game that was supposed to be played Saturday in Jacksonville has been moved to Tallahassee.
