Royals win at Cleveland in 10, 9-8
Sunday belonged to Ryan O’Hearn. O’Hearn had not one but two home runs including the game winner in the tenth inning to give the Kansas City Royals a 9-8 win over the Cleveland Indians.
The Royals jumped on top in the second with two runs and tacked on another in the third to go up 3-0. Cleveland added two of its own in the third and another in the seventh to even the game at 3-3. As soon as the game was tied, the Royals put five on the board in the eighth to take a commanding 8-3 lead. Unfortunately the team couldn’t hold on to that large lead as closer Ian Kennedy gave up four runs in the ninth and the game went to extra innings. In the tenth, Ryan O’Hearn led off the inning with his second home run of the game. Jorge Lopez pitched the bottom of the tenth for his first major league save.
The Royals return home on Monday for a 7:15pm game against the Oakland Athletics. Brad Keller goes tot he mound for the Royals. Former Royals pitcher Homer Bailey pitches for the A’s.
Ned Yost said that he will not let Brad Keller exceed 100 pitches in a game for the rest of the season. He also has an innings limit in mind for Keller but wants to talk with Dayton Moore about it first.
