Royals lose to Indians 4-1
The Cleveland Indians jumped on top with four runs in the bottom of the second and defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-1 on Friday night. The loss dropped the Royals to 45-84 on the season and on pace for 102 losses.
Jakob Junis started on the mound for the Royals. Junis allowed four of the six hits against him in the four-run second inning including a home run by Francisco Lindor.
A positive on the pitching side came from Kyle Zimmer and Josh Staumont. Both pitchers threw two scoreless innings. Zimmer allowed just one hit and one walk in his two innings. It took Zimmer just 25 pitches. Staumont all two hits but no walks on 20 pitches.
The offense only got six hits, two each from Whit Merrifield and Alex Gordon. Hunter Dozier had a triple which was the team’s only extra base hit. The Hunter Dozier triple to right center to scored Nicky Lopez.
Eric Skoglund will start Sunday’s game at Cleveland. Danny Duffy will go on a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton was diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain. The Panthers are cautiously optimistic he will be ready for the team’s first game.
