Royals lose at Tigers 5-2
Whit Merrifield hit a 2-2 pitch for an inside-the-park home run to lead off the game.
The Royals wouldn’t score after that until a meaningless ninth inning home run by Jorge Soler.
That’s not surprising though. The Royals have often scored early and then not at all the rest of the game. Detroit Tigers pitcher Edwin Jackson shut down the Royals’ offense. Jackson, formerly with the Toronto Blue Jays, lowered his ERA to 11.12 with this outing. In this game he allowed just one run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Brad Keller got the start on the mound for the Royals. He allowed five runs on ten hits in six innings. Keller walked three and struck out six. Keller had pitched pretty well since the calendar turned to July. This was his worse start since June 30 in which he allowed six runs in five innings.
Tim Hill pitched two scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out two.
The Royals will play Saturday at 5pm. Mike Montgomery gets the start for the Royals. Spencer Turnbull starts on the mound for Detroit.
The Kansas City Royals optioned Kyle Zimmer to Omaha. Eric Skoglund was recalled to take his place on the roster.
Chiefs sign Morris Claiborne
The Kansas City Chiefs signed cornerback Morris Claiborne to a one-year contract. He is expected to join the team on Monday.
Missouri will sell alcohol at football games
The University of Missouri announced that it will sell beer and wine at Tiger football games this fall. All alcohol sales will take place at concession stands. No sales will happen in the seating area.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown has reportedly filed a helmet grievance against the NFL. He will apparently not play if he’s forced to use the new helmet.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway was being suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
