Royals sweep Braves with 2-0 win
Brad Keller returned to his home state for his first major league start in Georgia and he was terrific leading the Royals to a 2-0 win and a sweep of a two-game series. Keller didn’t allow a run on four hits and one walk to go with three strikeouts in seven innings. He was in control all night. Keller went 1-for-2 at the plate and got his first major league RBI.
The bullpen was really good in this game as well. Jake Diekman pitched a scoreless eighth striking out the side and Ian Kennedy pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts for the save.
The offense struggled again against Atlanta pitching only getting five hits Wednesday to match its Tuesday hit total. Cheslor Cuthbert had two of those five hits. Bubba Starling got another hit tonight. Starling had a double which was the only extra base hit for the Royals.
Hunter Dozier is usually a solid glove at third base but tonight he let a ball play him for what should have been en error but was eventually changed incorrectly to a hit. The previous inning he was doubled off of first base on a caught line drive to third. He should have stopped until the ball went through the infield but he started running and was just a bit late getting back to first after the catch.
Chargers’ Gordon holding out
Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon did not report to training camp as required on Wednesday. He is holding out for a new contract. Gordon will be subject to fines. Ian Rapoport reported that talks between Gordon’s agent and the Chargers are expected to stop, meaning it could be a lengthy holdout. The Chargers are expected to focus on the running backs they have in camp.
