Independence Day did not help the Royals break free of their losing streak as it it reached four in an 8-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians. After falling behind by a run in the second, the Royals put up three in their half of the third and carried a 3-2 lead into the seventh. That’s when Jorge Lopez entered the game and the wheels came off the bus. Lopez allowed four runs on four hits without retiring a batter. The Royals ended up allowing six runs in all in the seventh and lost 8-4.
Cheslor Cuthbert had two hits in the game. His average increased to .296.
Cam Gallagher went 2-for-4 with a home run. It’s tough to hit as a backup catcher with only getting to play once, maybe twice each week, but Gallagher’s .196 average and .526 OPS is not what you want.
Homer Bailey had another decent start. Bailey allowed two runs on six hits and two walks in five innings.
Tim Hill pitched a perfect inning in the sixth. He had a strikeout and lowered his ERA to 4.50.
Jorge Lopez allowed four runs on four hits without retiring a batter. He did throw nine fo his 13 pitches for strikes but he wasn’t fooling anyone.
Jake Newberry pitched a scoreless inning but not without some trouble. He allowed a hit and two walks but escaped without allowing a run.
Ian Kennedy pitched a scoreless inningwirh a walk and a strikeout.
