On Wednesday the Royals were unable to complete a sweep of the Mariners. Brad Keller allowed the first four batters of the game for the Mariners to score in the Royals’ 8-2 loss. Keller ended up going just 4 innings and he allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks to go with five strikeouts. Brian Flynn did finish the game on the mound for the Royals going four innings and allowing just one run on one hit and one walk.
There wasn’t much offense once again in this game. However, Nicky Lopez continued his hot hitting with two hits in his four at bats. Cheslor Cuthbert and Jorge Bonifacio each had two hits as well.
Maybe the biggest news offensively was that Jorge Soler did not hit a home run. He seems to be hitting a home run almost every game recently. The loss ended the Royals’ three game winning streak.
Whit Merrifield made a nice, quick flip to Nicky Lopez to turn a tough double play.
Nicky Lopez played shortstop in this game. He turned a double play on a toss from Whit Merrifield and fired a throw to first to beat a fast Dee Gordon.
Brad Keller struggled mightily in the first inning. The first four batters all reached and scored. Keller allowed a three-run home run and a solo home run in the first. Keller allowed three more runs in the fourth and was done.
