The Royals won their third consecutive game Tuesday. They defeated the Seattle Mariners 9-0 to clinch the series with one game to go. Whit Merrifield was the star of the game going 3-for-4 on the night with two home runs, three runs scored and six runs batted in. Nicky Lopez was the only other Royals player with multiple hits in the game. Lopez went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Jorge Soler hit his 20th home run on the season. On the mound, Homer Bailey pitched 7.2 innings allowing just five hits and two walks.
Homer Bailey threw 121 pitches in the game, 63% of those were strikes. Jorge Lopez was brought in for one batter and got a strikeout. Kevin McCarthy then pitched a scoreless ninth to finish things off. Adalberto Mondesi left the game early because of a groin strain.
Everything went right for the Royals in Tuesday’s game but Seattle has really struggled since they got off to their hit start. The Mariners were just four games better than the Royals after Tuesday’s game and had a worse run differential by 21 runs.
