Glenn Sparkman had another nice start for the Royals on Sunday but the offense didn’t support him and they lost to the Chicago White Sox 5-2. Whit Merrifield, Alex Gordon and Adalberto Mondesi combined to go 0-for-12 at the top of the order. Jorge Soler was the only batter who did any damage in this game. The loss drops the Royals to 20-45 and there doesn’t appear to be any relief in sight.
Jorge Soler hit a 445 foot home run in the fourth. The home run was Soler’s 17th on the season. Soler also singled in the game.
Cheslor Cuthbert doubled to left in the ninth to score Jorge Soler from first and cut the White Sox lead to 5-2.
Kelvin Gutierrez committed an error on a groundball with two outs in the second. The runner scored from first on a double to put the White Sox up 2-0. … Gutierrez doubled to left center in the second.
Glenn Sparkman allowed a monster home run to center by Eloy Jimenez in the second inning to put the White Sox up 1-0. Sparkman ended up going 6.2 innings and allowing three runs, two of them earned, on eight hits and one walk.
