Lucas Giolito gave up a three-run home run in the top of the first to Alex Gordon but then dominated the Royals until he left after the eighth inning. Giolito allowed just three hits and one walk and struck out ten.
Alex Gordon was responsible for knocking in all three runs with his first inning home run. Other than that the Royals struggled to get any base runners. Nicky Lopez is struggling in a big way right now. He had the lowest strikeout rate in the minors but struck out three times in this game.
Nicky Lopez is struggling at the plate right now. He’s expanding the zone and swinging at pitches he wasn’t swinging at when he first arrived.
Whit Merrifield is still learning the outfield. In the sixth he threw to third on a single hit to him in right which allowed the batter, Yolmer Sanchez, to take second base with no outs. The throw should have gone to second to keep a double play in order.
Alex Gordon got the Royals off to a quick start with a three-run home run to center with one out in the first.
Hunter Dozier played terrific third base in the sixth. With no outs and runners on second and third, Dozier fielded two hard ground balls cleanly to get outs at first with runners advancing.
Terrance Gore was thrown out trying to steal yet again. He lost his footing part way between first and second.
Brad Keller struggled with his curve. He was leaving his curve up in the zone but just giving up singles. He had some curves down but wasn’t getting them called for strikes. Keller ended up allowing just one walk but ten hits and four runs. Although he struggled tonight, the fact that he was able to limit the runs to just four and keep the Royals in the game is nice to see.
