Jakob Junis threw strikes but too many were good pitches for Cleveland batters. Although he allowed five runs in 6.1 innings he ate innings and kept the lead once the Royals got it in the third. Richard Lovelady relieved Junis and gave up the three-run lead the Royals had built. The rest of the bullpen came in and pitched well to keep the game tied until Hunter Dozier hit in Terrance Gore to win the game 9-8 in the bottom of the ninth.
