In his three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, Tyreek Hill has missed just one game. He has improved each season in every receiving category except catch percentage, a category he has actually dropped in every season. Hill is considered one of, if not the, fastest players in the league. He is a nightmare for opposing defenses. All of this makes Tyreek Hill one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, but he is also one of the lowest paid. That’s common because he’s still on his first contract. However, this is about to change.
The Chiefs have reportedly started talking with agent Drew Rosenhaus on a contract extension for Hill. Tyreek Hill made $687,486 in 2018. His career earnings are $1,806,256 in three years. He is scheduled to make $2.025 million in 2019. Hill’s market value as determined by Spotrac is $19.1 million per year. Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti expects Hill’s contract discussions to start at $95 million over five years with $42 million guaranteed and the possibility of it going higher from there.
Spotrac’s market value data shows that Hill currently has the 154th highest wide receiver contract. His market value indicates that he should be the highest paid receiver.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that the Chiefs are indeed working on such a record-setting deal.
Joel Corry of CBS Sports wondered if a Tyreek Hill contract extension this offseason will cause an explosion in the wide receiver market.
We have discussed the Chiefs needing to make the smart decisions and trade Dee Ford and Justin Houston. This is a situation where they need to keep their player. Tyreek Hill might be the best receiver in the game and is a terrific weapon for Patrick Mahomes.
